The Fifteen Foundation

Fifteen is a concept set up by chef Jamie Oliver in London in 2002 when he realized he could use his skills and energy to offer young people with tough backgrounds an opportunity to train and be employed in a supportive environment.

Since opening in London, the Fifteen Family has grown to include Fifteen Amsterdam, Fifteen Cornwall and now Fifteen Melbourne.
Each location works hard to address the needs and issues that are relevant to local young people, while learning from the International experience of the wider Fifteen Family.

Many of the young people The Fifteen Foundation work with come from tough backgrounds with histories of substance abuse, homelessness, violence and learning difficulties that prevent them from entering the workforce via traditional pathways. The Fifteen Foundation places them into a training program with real prospects and offers support to get them through it and to tackle the day-to-day issues that have previously held them back in education or training.

Füritechnics is proud to supply Füri knives and knife sharpeners to the apprentices at Fifteen Melbourne. We understand the importance of providing quality, Australian engineered tools to the next generation of budding young chefs.

“Füritechnics Australia is famous among the world’s elite chefs for the performance of Füri knives, sharpeners, and cook’s tools. Our reputation is a result of years of solid engineering research and development, and a combination of high quality and superior performance. We are proud to provide the apprentices at Fifteen with Füri knives that will last them well throughout their trade. We support the hospitality industry at every opportunity and can see strong futures ahead for these young apprentices”

As well as providing a great set of knives, the team at Füritechnics is dedicated to training and will conduct training sessions with the apprentices to properly utilize, care for and store their prized possessions.

Pictured above is Glenn Flood, Training and Development Chef, Fifteen Foundation (Australia) demonstrating how to correctly use a knife to two of the Fifteen Melbourne apprentices.

“For the passed 6 years I have been using Füri knives and sharpeners, and love the way they handle in a professional environment. When you are cooking for many hours a day you need comfortable, sharp and well designed knives. I am extremely pleased that Füritechnics have come on board to provide their Australian engineered tools for our apprentices as I know they are training with quality. As a chef your tools are your most valuable asset and to give a first year apprentice quality knives will enhance their development as a chef.”

Füri Froggy:  an exciting new development for the kitchen!

Similar to Italian Mezzalunas, Füri Froggy has a double blade for faster chopping and slicing.

The innovative handle can be used with one hand or two, for easy handling and rocking.

- Dual blade stability
- Curved blades and bowl for controlled movement
- Fatigue-reducing comfort and grip

The included Froggy wooden chopping board has a curved bowl for manageable cutting with Froggy and a flat area for trimming with a regular knife. Alternately, flip the board over and use it as another chopping board!

In addition Froggy includes a non-slip mat for gripping the board securely on the kitchen counter and a Füri-Grip™ rubberised handle in “froggy” green and protected by Füri Guard™ (antimicrobial inhibitors that are incorporated directly and permanently into the handle during the manufacturing process, giving the handle an added safeguard against microorganisms that can degrade it over time).

The 3 Piece Set includes:
• Double blade Froggy Mezzaluna
• Reversible wood chopping board
• Non-slip mat

“For many years now I have been using Füri knives at home and in my professional kitchens. They have become even more desirable with the new Füri Grip handle. The black rubberised handle offers improved grip and therefore improved safety. The handle fits very snugly into my hand and I am convinced that this new knife range is ideally suited for home cooks of any age, and professional chefs will also love them.”

In association with Stephanie Alexander the engineers and designers of Füritechnics have developed an all new high performance Füri knife range.

Füri Grip knives were developed by the chefs and engineers at Füritechnics Australia, after worldwide success with their original Füri Pro range of knives and sharpeners. Füri Grip has the same patented* Füri handle shape, and now the advantage of a durable thermoplastic elastomer synthetic rubber handle, for the ultimate in comfort and grip.

Plus in an exciting new innovation in hygiene for home cooks, the engineers and designers of Füritechnics Australia have incorporated Füri Guard™ into the Füri handle moulding. Füri Guard™ is a proven** effective antimicrobial agent that helps prevent bacteria from developing on the surface of Füri Grip handles.  For long term protection, Füri Guard™ is moulded with the rubberized handle and will not wash off or wear away.

All the knives in the Füri Grip range feature the patented* Füri handle for comfort and grip, moulded with Füri Guard™ antimicrobial for hygiene, exceptional forged bolster and hardened & tempered German CrMoV stainless steel for edge retention and durability.

Füri Pro Ultra Set receives blessing from Smart Money Magazine

In a recent Smart Money magazine article, the Füri Pro Ultra Set was rated the best among the top US knife brands. Reviewed by Chef Sexton from the Institute of Culinary Education in New York, our ‘upmarket’ set received high praise for being ‘definitely really cool looking’, ability of the knives to ‘slice beautifully’, and the Tech Hone fingers mounted on the side of the block to ‘make sharpening idiot proof’.
